Dear Dr. James, I would like to get permission to add more time to my teaching days. My class has a five day specials rotation. Two of these days we go to Physical Education (PE). In order to have more time to teach, I want to ask that on PE days my students not go out for recess. They have already played and exercised for fifty minutes. Specifcally, by them not going out for recess, I would have an extra twenty to thirty minutes on those two day.

This extra hour would be enough time to teach spelling and grammar every day and give us more writing time. In my opinion it is not unreasonable to ask students to give up play time in order to get more instructional time. However I feel that students and parents may not agree with me in the beginning, but eventually they will realize it will help them become better students. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Ms. Johnson
