Swimming is a sport for everyone. You can learn to swim as a baby or at age 80. Swimming exercises all the muscles in your body without straining them as running and other sports may do. You don't have to be good or fast. You can enjoy swimming at a supervised neighborhood pool.
It is a safe exercise that is fun and relaxing.
If you have not been swimming for a long time, start slowly. Swim once or twice a week at first. Swim long enough and fast enough to
breathe hard for a few minutes each time but don't wear yourself out.
As you get better, you can swim more often. You may want to do "laps"--swimming the length of the pool and back with steady strokes, over
and over. You will find you can go longer and longer distances whether you are fast or not. Your body will be fit and trim; and believe it or not, you
will have more energy!
