A rectangular picture, composed of a photograph surrounded by a wood frame, is being hung in the center of a 48 inch wall. The wood frame itself is 7 7/8 inches wide on all sides. although the length of the horizontal base of the frame is unknown, the area of the entire picture is 155 1/4 square inches, and the vertical height of the frame is 13 13 1/2 inches. Answer the following questions. Make sure to label all measurements.

Sketch a diagram to represent the rectangular picture. Include all given picture measurements on the diagram.
Calculate the length of the base of the frame. Show all your calculations. Note: The area of a rectangle is found by multiplying the length of its base by the length of its height. So, to find the length of its base, given its area and height, divide the area by the height.
Estimate the dimensions of the photograph showing inside the frame. Then, find the exact dimensions. Do the exact dimensions you found seem reasonable? Explain your reasoning in one or more complete sentences.
If the center of the picture frame is hung exactly in the center of the wall, how far will the edge of the picture frame be from each side of the wall? Show all your calculations.

Which word best describes the author's tone in this excerpt from "that spot" by jack london? i don’t think much of stephen mackaye any more, though i used to swear by him. i know that in those days i loved him more than my own brother. if ever i meet stephen mackaye again, i shall not be responsible for my actions. it passes beyond me that a man with whom i shared food and blanket, and with whom i mushed over the chilcoot trail, should turn out the way he did. i always sized steve up as a square man, a kindly comrade, without an iota of anything vindictive or malicious in his nature. i shall never trust my judgment in men again. why, i nursed that man through typhoid fever; we starved together on the headwaters of the stewart; and he saved my life on the little salmon. and now, after the years we were together, all i can say of stephen mackaye is that he is the meanest man i ever knew. a. excited b. ironic c. indignant d. playful
