One person is able to influence a crowd depending on the crowd that they are trying to have a toll on. People usually follow a particular person when they are doing something that they think is cool and/or, causes other people to get to like that person. It is true that this can be positive or negative.

Explanation:

Positive: One person in a school dresses with clothes that are within the school rules, unlike everyone else who wears inappropriate black and white clothes, and they start wearing a clothing style similar to the different  person's, eventually becoming a trend.

Negative: Someone in school starts skipping school, and others start to do the same.
