In the text the story says that Dr. Piot received a pint of blood that contained a mysterious virus which I assume is the Ebola virus. It is said that many died in it, and mostly in it we're women. When the text said that nurses we're given five needles each day, and used it over and over again, that's when the virus started to spread. You see, Ebola virus doesn't spread in physical contact like handshaking or whatsoever. But the body fluids contained by the person that has it, can transmit Ebola including  Blood , Feces , Vomit , Saliva , Mucus , Tears , Breast milk , Urine , Semen , Sweat.  Each needle contains different persons blood or body fluid, so one of them might have the virus and has spreaded it through the needles.
