Transformation is the storyline that makes us more interested in the story.“In fact, a bruise the size of a pear would materialize on her forearm by morning. When she reached out to steady herself she misjudged the distance of the doorframe -- or did the doorframe recede an inch or two --- and nearly lost her balance” ( Oates 76). This shows transformation through the way the characters change. They started off as a happy couple welcoming a man into their house and they ended with anger, rage and pain. Transformation is shown by how the parents attitudes changed from the beginning to the end of the story.
