Guys what writing skills are used in this text and what are some sentence starters as well? Here's the text: Imagine. Imagine you are standing in front of a path… a path that determines your future. The path on the left is the path you know you should take. The path on the right is the path that...let’s just say, other people want you to take. It’s obvious which path you should take, right? You should take the path on the left. Simple. Problem solved. Wrong. The problem would be solved if we were adults, if we were allowed to make our choices. However, we are teenagers – silly kids who need to be taught manners and organisation apparently! So we are forced onto the path on the right, the path filled with rules and demands that we must follow. The path that is filled with expectations and chores that will not help us in the future. The path that is…the community service initiative.

Community service. We all agree it is an excellent cause, to give something back to the community; to give something back to the under privileged. However, forcing teenagers into community service every week to teach them skills such as organisation, manners and attitude towards work is ludicrous. Let me explain why. Myself, and countless other GCSE students, spend around eight hours a day at school. We have a further six hours before bedtime. In those six hours we must prioritise homework, coursework and revision. We have to make a decision as to which subject we need to revise and when. We need to organise – yes organise – our time accordingly to make sure we excel in school. Our homework, schoolwork and coursework is our work. The way we organise our time shows that we care about our work, we have a good attitude towards our work. Is that not what this community service initiative wants to teach us? Why teach us two skills we already have? Moreover, if I do not spend four hours a week studying English, and instead completing community service, what will happen to my grades? I fear a disadvantage to this imitative is my studies will suffer. We have worked many hours, many days and many nights to make sure that we finish with outstanding results, we do not want to sacrifice those grades for skills we have already developed at school!

Moreover, what about our wellbeing? School has gone on and on about wellbeing – about taking time out for yourself and taking care of yourself mentally. How are we meant to do that when we have 9 hours of school, 3 hours of homework, 1 hour of after school intervention on a daily basis? The three hours a week may seem minimal to most but to us, students, those three hours literally allow us to breathe. We can develop hobbies, watch some television, read a book or even see our families! I mean, how many of us actually get to spend time with our mothers and fathers? I know I don’t. Wellbeing is important. Spending time away from studying is important. Family is important. 90% of students who take time out and spend time on their own wellbeing will be more successful in life. That is what we want. That is what the school wants. That is what we should have!

Finally, a third reason why community service is a horrific idea is how do we control behaviour? Many a times, school have offered clubs or enrichments but student behaviour has ruined it for everyone. I do not want that again and I’m sure you, the reader, do not want that… What is the point of spending three hours on something that will literally waste time. Maybe if the school controlled behaviour better that might make community service more worthwhile. However, at the moment the misbehaviour will ruin the experience and no one will benefit.

Therefore, in conclusion, we should not be given community service! We do not want to be worked like dogs and as for the skills like organization, we already have those because our work load. Therefore, students let’s stand together and against this initiative.
