John Putnam refuses Abigail when she says she still loves him. Do you believe him when he says their relationship is over? Why or why not?

I believe John Putnam when he refuses Abigail's profession of love.  Abigail has proved herself a manipulator of men and women.  She is able to get whatever she wants through threats and lies.

Though he once committed adultery with her, John Putnam has come to his senses about his sin, especially based on the false accusations that Abigail was throwing about against people who were not involved with her in the witch dance.

Explanation:

Arthur Miller chronicled "The Crucible" in 1953 to relate the communist trial by the United States to the actual "Salem witch trials that took place in the Massachusetts Bay Colony during 1692–93."  Through the novel, he condemned mob mentality as a wrongful tool that could be used to persecute innocent people in the community.  To condemn innocent people to death as a phantom excuse for eliminating evil is itself evil.
