Nathaniel Hawthorne’s ancestor was a part of this dark travesty. How could this have influenced Nathaniel Hawthorne’s own sense of value, self-worth and writing style?
2. The covering of the face and body is not something unique to this story. In many other cultures people still cover most of their faces and bodies to this day. Surmise as to the reason for these types of traditions. From the viewpoint of an extremely religious person, why would someone feel a compulsion to cover their own faces from the world?
