The Benefits of Reusing and Recycling Recycling benefits many people and places in sometimes surprising ways. In addition to protecting our environment and prolonging the lifespan of Earth’s natural resources, recycling has become a big industry. More than 50,000 recycling and reuse facilities employ more than 1 million people. These workers earn an annual income of nearly $37 billion. The total gross annual revenue of these facilities is more than $230 billion. Saving the planet is a noble and worthwhile goal, but it’s also important to recognize the real economic benefits of reusing and recycling.
