The stage directions that open the play reveal that the rooms are dusty, the curtains are in rags,
and tables and chairs are overturned. Mr. Frank
walks onstage and finds a scarf and a woman's
white glove. In the film, Mr. Frank arrives at the
annex and stands on the street in front of the
building. The viewer sees him through a window
in the attic room as he looks up at the building.
Later, as he walks through the dark rooms, Mr.
Frank's face is mostly hidden, until he becomes
a black silhouette. How does the camera make
the attic setting seem almost like another
character in the film? Support your answer with
evidence from the film.
