1) The first contraceptive pill was appeared 60 years ago, on the American market. This pills revolutionized women's lives. Today, oral hormonal contraception is one of the most popular methods of preventing unplanned pregnancy, which, thanks to its development over the years, now offers women more than its prototype! Nowadays, these pills, apart from being highly effective in contraception, have additional non-contraceptive properties. But if we use any natural preparations on a daily basis, we must tell the gynecologist about it, because they may be ineffective.

2) According to doctors, 53.2% of Polish women have partial knowledge about the application of contraceptive pills. 40.6% of women have full knowledge in this field and 6.3% of women do not have adequate knowledge

And now I will present some interesting facts about this pills

3) Grapefruit juice reduces the effectiveness of the tablets

Grapefruit juice slows down the metabolism of the oestrogens - the hormones in the tablets, and may delay the absorption of the active substances. A glass of juice reduces the effectiveness of the pill and increases the risk of an unplanned pregnancy.

4) Herbs and tablets are mutually exclusive

Especially when our first aid kit includes, among others popular St. John's wort, but also tranquilizers which the main ingredients are often herbal extracts. Their consumption may cause unwanted side effects and reduce the effectiveness of the pills.

5) Acne reduction

Acne lesions appear not only in adolescence, but also in women with hormonal disorders. The appearance of hormones-related acne is caused by androgens, which are male hormones but also are found in low concentrations in women. When treatment with antibiotics is ineffective, the doctor may recommend taking contraceptive pills that reduce the level of free testosterone. As a result, it positively affects the appearance of the skin.

Many women struggle with painful menstruation, which can significantly reduce the comfort of everyday functioning and mean that daily activities must be kept to a minimum during menstruation. The contraceptive pill is a way to alleviate painful menstruation.

7) A way to have a great vacation

Hormonal contraception helps women to control their fertility and can also delay the onset of menstruation. If we are going on a long-awaited vacation or an important event ahead, e. g. a wedding during which menstruation and the accompanying pain will be a problem, then using contraceptive pills - we can postpone the menstruation

There is a risk of birth defects
Good evidence shows that pills will not cause birth defects and will not otherwise harm the fetus if a woman becomes pregnant while taking pills or accidentally starts to take pills when she already pregnant.
The contraceptive pill can cause cancer
The use of oral contraceptives are proven to decrease the risk of two gynecological cancers (ovarian and endometrial).
Contraceptive pills can get absorbed into the wrong part of the body
After the pills are swallowed, they dissolve in the digestive system, and the hormones they contain are absorbed into the bloodstream. After they produce their contraceptive effect, the hormones are metabolised in the liver and gut and are then eliminated from the body. They do not accumulate in the body anywhere.
You will experience weight changes
Most women do not gain or lose weight as a result of this pills use. A woman's weight may fluctuate naturally due to changes in age or life circumstance.
There is a risk of infertility, or a delayed return to fertility
The combined oral contraceptive does not cause infertility. Women who stop using pills can become pregnant as quickly as women who stop using non-hormonal methods.
