Write a cause-and-effect essay in which you address the following prompt: How does Scrooge’s character transform over the course of the play? A cause-and-effect essay explains why something happens or what happens as a result of something else. A successful cause-and-effect essay includes the following elements:

• an introduction that grabs readers’ interest and a strong, insightful conclusion

• a well-defined central idea that is supported by textual evidence

• detailed analysis and factual explanations of events or experiences and the relationships among them

• a clear, logical organization with effective transitions that show causes and effects
