fictional character from a reading.

selection, you will create a yearbook page for the character or person using text,
images, and graphics that help explain who the person is.
Assignment Prompt
Choose a character from the texts you have read in this quarter. You can pick a fictional
character or a real person. Create a yearbook page that expresses who this person is.
Include images and graphics that reflect the actions and personality of the individual.
Thoroughly research your character so that the yearbook page sufficiently describes
him or her.
Assignment
Step 1: Choose the subject of your yearbook.
a) Review the texts that you read in this quarter to choose a person whom you
find interesting to be the subject of your yearbook page.
b) Brainstorm ideas about the character’s accomplishments, actions, personality
traits, and goals that can be used on his or her yearbook page.

b) Choose a writing tone and style that are appropriate to the subject and to the

c) Remember to save your work as you go.
Step 4: Search for images.
a) Search for images to represent the person, the person’s goals, and main
events in his or her life.

image is free to use.
c) Save the locations of all the images that you might use
Step 5: Start creating your yearbook page.

Read the excerpt from "mother tongue." those tests were constructed around items like fill-in-the-blank sentence completion, such as “even though tom was mary thought he was ” and the correct answer always seemed to be the most bland combinations of thoughts, for example, “even though tom was foolish, mary thought he was ridiculous.” well, according to my mother, there were very few limitations as to what tom could have been and what mary might have thought of him. so i never did well on tests like that. how does tan build a central idea of her story in the excerpt? tan discusses the types of questions on achievement tests to support the idea that the tests limit students’ ability to write well. tan explains a question on a language achievement test to support the idea that the tests should include more interesting content. tan gives an example of her experience with achievement tests to support the idea that they are not always accurate measures of language ability. tan considers how her mother might answer a question on a test to support the idea that nonstandard english limits a person’s ability to communicate.
