I think he could have benefited from the advice in the poem because, he's been through a lot. He's seen the worst, and never the best. He says that there's no one there for him. And, if someone had told him this poem, before he died, he could've benefited from it, realizing that just because you've seen the worst, there's always going to be another problem.
