It was pouring rain. Mellie and Dot walked toward the woods in their neighborhood,
splashing in puddles and enjoying the storm. They came to a creek that had overflowed; the
muddy water ran quickly past them, carrying sticks and leaves. Mellie wanted to wade
across the creek and continue their walk, but Dot wasn't sure how deep it was and thought
they should turn back.
a) How might the plot develop if Dot responds to the conflict by agreeing to wade across the
creek?
b) How might the plot develop if Dot responds to the conflict by refusing to cross the creek?
