In Act II Macbeth says, "If I had died but an hour before this chance, I had
lived a blessed time; for, from this instant, There's nothing serious in
mortality." Those listening think he laments (is mourning) the king's death.
In reality he laments his murder of the king. This is an example of *
parody - an imitation of the style of a particular writer artist, or genre with deliberate
exaggeration for comic effect.
metaphor - a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or
action to which it is not literally applicable.
verbal irony - when words express something contrary to truth or someone says the
opposite of what they really feel or mean,
catastrophe - the final action that completes the unraveling of the plot in a play.
