There was once a wise person who became an adviser to a king who was very talkative—so talkative that when he was around, no one had an opportunity to say a word. At that time, there also lived a tortoise in a pond in the Himalayas, who made friends with two young wild ducks. One day, the ducks said to the tortoise, "Friend tortoise, the place where we live, at the Golden Cave on Mount Beautiful in the Himalayan country, is a delightful spot. Will you come there with us?" The tortoise asked, "But how can I get there?" "We can take you if you can only hold your tongue and say nothing to anybody," replied the ducks. "Oh! That I can do. Take me with you," said the tortoise. And making the tortoise bite hold of a stick, the ducks took the two ends in their teeth and flew up into the air. Some villagers called out and said, "Two wild ducks are carrying a tortoise along on a stick!" The tortoise who had difficulty keeping quiet wanted to say, "If my friends choose to carry me, what is that to you!" When the tortoise opened his mouth to say the words, he let go of the stick he was biting and fell down and got hurt. The king, who saw this happen, asked his adviser, "How come he has fallen here?" The adviser replied, "The tortoise must have wanted to say something, let go of the stick, fallen down from the sky, and thus got injured." The king understood the adviser's words and learned to listen to others.
