Identify one trival detail from the text. Remember a trivial detail is not important to the main idea of the story, but paints a picture in the reader's mind. 10 Raising her head out of the water, Claire called, "Whitetip reef shark!" I swam over to see this nonthreatening shark, but it had already gone. "The reef isn't like a zoo," Claire reminded me. "You never know what you'll see out here." 11 Andrew pointed out a giant clam on the seafloor. At least this creature wasn't going anywhere. At first, the giant clam sat open, showing its mantle with shades of turquoise and sapphire blue. Then we watched in amazement when it closed itself up. 12 Claire said, "There are lots of animals here that don't get the same attention as famous reef inhabitants, but they're important too. Follow me and we'll look at sea cucumbers, sponges, sea squirts, and nudibranchs (sea slugs)." 13 Before leaving the reef, I admired the 360-degree view of the sparkling Pacific Ocean. It seemed infinite, making me feel small. I also felt amazed, for this was the "other side" of the same ocean I grew up beside in western North America, 7,100 miles away. Now I could really understand that we all share the oceans.
