It took two years of captivity for Karankawa Indians to trust de Vaca. When de Vaca includes this information in his journal on the survivors' transformation into medicine men, his purpose is to educate his audience of how the Lord helped them and worked in their favor. When the survivors' prayed for the sick they immediately received healing in their body.
