However, it did not hamper their relationship and the narrator seemed very impressed about Carlé's profession and dedication in his work.

They had a strong emotional connection. This can be inferred through the narrator's way of expressing about her lover's work. She proudly explains about his work and how Carlé was a familiar figure in newscasts through lines such as "For years  he had been a familiar figure in newscasts," and "Rolf Carlé had the advantage of the television helicopter, which flew him over the avalanche."
