Dear Judge Taylor,

I am writing this letter to inform you of my decision to appeal Tom Robinson's conviction where he was found guilty for the r ape of Mayella Ewell.

First of all, I strongly believe that the conviction was wrong that is why I would be appealing that conviction. Bob Ewell is a known alcoholic and poverty-stricken man who for some reason best known to him decided to wrongfully accuse my client, Mr. Tom Robinson's perhaps to ruin my client's life and so far it is working.

As was mentioned in the trial, Bob Ewell is left-handed and a good number of injuries on Mayella were on the right side which strongly suggests that it was done by a left-handed person of which my client is not, in fact, his left hand is completely useless.

Additionally, from the testimonies of father and daughter, there were a lot of inconsistencies in their recollection of events of that day which is another clear indication that the Ewell family are on some sort of witch-hunting against my client.

Moreso, we cannot overlook the racial bias that exists in Mayhouse, Alabama in 1935 as, despite the best evidence and defense, the jury could not look past their bias and give a good judgment simply because the accused was a black man and the assault happened to a white woman.
