“It’s the biggest animal,” she cried. “It’s just the worst I’ve ever seen!”

When they heard these noises, a crowd of people rushed to see what the matter was. They gathered anxiously, expecting something terrible. They found the girl standing on top o chair. Suddenly, a small mouse darted out. The crowd was not amused with the girl.

The Girl Who Never Told a Lie

Once there was a young girl,
With curly hair and pleasant eye—
A girl who always told the truth,
And never, never told a lie.

And when she went off to school,
The students all about would cry,
"There goes the curly-headed girl—
The girl that never tells a lie."

And everybody loved her so,
Because she always told the truth,
That every day, as she grew up,
It was said, "There goes the honest youth."

And when the people that stood near
Would turn to ask the reason why,
The answer would be always this:
"Because she never tells a lie."
