Activity Writers use figurative language to add depth and layers of meaning to their writing. There are many types of figurative language and literary devices, including simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, alliteration, assonance, consonance, and onomatopoeia. While annotating a text, look for instances of figurative language and try to understand the intent behind their use.
