PLEASE HELP!! My essay is due today, and I need to know how I can improve on this to make it the best I can. This is based off of the book, “The Call of the Wild” by Jack Landon. Only the strong and smart survive the wilderness. To survive, individuals have to train themselves to endure and adjust to living in harsh environments. This means being prepared for any challenge, and improving one’s instincts and senses. The Call of the Wild is a story where Buck, a dog, has to adjust to harsh conditions after being sold by his owners for fifty bucks. He was raised in California, but soon after he was shipped to Alaska. Throughout the novel, Buck proves that he can survive even the toughest obstacles. He kills anyone that could bring harm’s way to him or his new owner, Thornton who Buck builds a strong bond with after he saves Buck’s life. He even kills other dogs that hold him back. “The blood-longing became stronger than ever before. He was a killer, a thing that preyed, living on the things that lived, unaided, alone, by virtue of his own strength and prowess, surviving triumphantly in a hostile environment where only the strong survived“ (Landon ch. 7). The cunning dog proves himself the alpha dog when he kills Spritz, the alpha after being attacked by him for days. Buck is both feared and looked up to because of his bravery and strength. In order to survive in harsh environments, animals and people must adapt to their surroundings, even if that means killing other individuals. In this story, Buck proves he can do so, as he transitions from a house dog to a wild, murderous dog. He does everything he can to protect his owner and make sure that the other dogs know their place.
