So even though Clark Kent bears a striking resemblance to Superman the two identities are not seen as even remotely interchangeable, because no one has any reason to believe Superman has a secret identity (he wears no mask), and Clark Kent carries himself differently in every way.

So, people see and accept what they want and ignore any anomaly. You can present yourself as one thing and yet appear as an entirely different thing, and no one will question it.

After all we all see people who resemble someone else, but whom we otherwise see in entirely different situations so therefore we have no reason to think they might be the same person living two different lives.
