Laetitia's mother was adamant about her citizenship Declaration because she had three citizenship of which she considers Blackfoot her first.

She would have acted the same way if she was trying to cross the border on her own because she is stubborn and have a lot of pride.

Explanation:

In Thomas King's "Borders", Laetitia's mother was eager not to dress like Americans when crossing the border so as not to be stereotyped as an American when she chose to identify with Blackfoot.
