Not only that but, as the very opening of the play explains, Romeo and J.uliet are destined to die. They are "star-crossed lovers" - no matter what they do, they will end up dying because of their love for each other. Therefore, even if good people such as Friar Laurence try to intervene and help them, Romeo and J.uliet are still going to make decisions that will lead to their tragic ending.
