Read the paragraph.
The pitiful noise coming from somewhere under the abandoned house caught my attention. I walked up to the house, trying to move slowly so as not to scare whatever was under there. I couldn’t figure out how the kitten got under the house, but I managed to find a loose board and move it aside. I looked into the darkness beneath the house and saw a tiny ball of fur, a kitten! I spoke to it, hoping to calm it down and coax it toward me. I was surprised when the kitten rushed into my arms. She was relieved to be rescued!
The writer wants to replace the word noise in the paragraph to make her meaning more concrete.
Which word would be a better choice?
A) disturbance
B) sound
C) rustling
D) crying
