An author of mystery can build suspense because of the mystery. The mystery makes this suspensful because of the ( ie ) crime scene. This can help the popularity of the series by keeping the reader A. Hooked and B. Cliffhung. Cliffhangers are normally used in mystery, which helps build suspense in between chapters, books, episodes, etc. By doing this, an author of mystery can help build suspense.

consider the text evidence: in the passage from the book, the description is more matter-of-fact. it is simply describing the things resembling little grey snakes, but there is no urgency in the description. on the other hand, in the passage from the radio broadcast, there is definetely urgency (you can tell from the expression used, "good heavens", which clearly indicates surprise.)
