The story begins with Scout talking about Mrs.Dubose an ill, mean, old lady who torment Scout and Jem each time they cross paths with each other. According to pg 114 it states, "If she was on her porch when we passed we would be raked by her wrathful gaze, subjected to ruthless interrogation regarding our behavior, and given a melancholy prediction on what we would amount to when we grew up, which was always nothing ".The first key detail is that in a fit of anger Jem cut the tops off of every camellia bush Mrs.Dubose owned because Mrs.Dubose made fun of Atticus. According to pg 118 it states," He did not begin to calm down until he had cut the tops off of every camellia bush Mrs.Dubose owned, until the ground was littered with green buds and leaves". The second key detail is that after Jem cuts off the tops of every camellia bush in Mrs.Dubose garden he is now forced to read for Mrs.Dubose every afternoon for a month as punishment. According to pg 127 it states, " She's dead son... Mrs.Dubose was a morphine addict".The resolution of chapter 11 is that Mrs.Dubose gifts Jem a camellia flower as a way of saying thank you. According to pg 128 it states," Jem opened the box. Inside, surrounded by wads of damp cotton, was a white waxy, perfect camellia".
