Jack had begged to have a dog of his own for two years when finally his parents relented and got him a labrador puppy. Jack took one look at the small, yellow puppy and named him "Jesse" without any hesitation. Jesse was cute as a button, but also extremely needy. Jack did not realize how much was involved in caring for one little puppy--how the puppy needed to be fed and have its water bowl refilled several times a day, for example. Jack thought homework kept him busy! One day, Jack came home and found that Jesse had ripped up all of Jack's shoes.
