A simile uses the words “Like” or “as”. For example a simile would be: her hair was as golden AS the sun. Notice the use of the word as. In the metaphor those words aren’t used, for example: Her hair was the sun. “Was a ticking time bomb” is a metaphor because it does not use “like” or “as” but is still comparing a heart to a time bomb, the heart isn’t actually a time bomb.
