Explanation:

When we ask questions about something, that is, if we want to know if there is something available, or if somebody has something, we will use any.

e.g.  Are there any apples?

If the response is affirmative, we will use "some".

e.g. Yes, there are some apples.

If the response is negative, we will use "any".

e.g. There are not any apples.
