I think that Thomas Paine should be considered an American patriot although he was born and raised in Britain because he did so much for the cause of the American Revolution, and all the people in the colonies came from Britain, so he was not so very different. In addition, he included himself when talking about the people of the colonies in his essay "The Crisis Number 1". One example of a strong statement he made in the essay is "Not all the treasures of the world, so far as I believe, could have induced me to support an offensive war, for I think it murder".

Paine's writing was reflective of the age of reason because like all the other writers of the age of reason he used persuasive arguments to try to convince people to join the American Revolution.
