Taylor is having considerable difficulty remembering terms, names, and facts in her English Literature class. On her last exam, she identified Shakespeare as the author of The Canterbury Tales and Paris as the location of the Tales. Historical authors and their works are so confusing to her that she doesn't even try to remember them. The result is that, although she typically does satisfactory on essays (she purposely leaves out connecting authors with their works that she is uncertain about), her scores are extremely low on objective items such as multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank items. What suggestions would you give Taylor to improve her learning in this area1. With what type of memory (procedural, episodic, or semantic) is Taylor having difficulty? 2. Apply the concepts of massed vs. distributed practice to suggest an effective strategy that Taylor might employ to improve his performance. 3. Identify at least two mnemonic strategies that he could employ and briefly describe how each might be used.
