Question 1.) At the end of chapter 39, Tom writes a "nonnamous" letter to the Phelps family. His letter is full of slang and colloquialisms. Write an essay of at least 150 words (in standard English) based on this letter, explaining what Tom wants the family to believe and clarifying any language that needs to be explained.
Question 2.) In chapters 36–39, the theme of appearance versus reality comes up repeatedly. It often represents a clue about the differences between Tom and Huck. In chapter 36, Tom is trying to figure out how to get various items to Jim. In at least fifty words, summarize Tom's approach to this situation, Huck's suggestion, and Tom's response. Explain what both tell us about these characters.
