Naturally, Macbeth has pride and throughout the play, it is demonstrated by him. Shakespeare purposely introduces Macbeth as a proud character. The witches’ prophecies give him the confidence he possesses in the play and this confidence and his pride only grow until it consumes his power needing mind. Macbeth is introduced as both a noble general and a thane with more power than most. At this point in the play, one would believe that he is proud of his position and has power over others. It is this pride that sparks his ambition and desires within him. Throughout the play it is clear that his biggest ambition is:
