Read this excerpt from Emily’s essay about volunteering:

Everyone should find a way to volunteer. Volunteering helps reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation. It can help boost people’s self-confidence when they see they can make a difference in others’ lives. But to those who say many people just don’t have the time to volunteer, I say that volunteering doesn’t have to be a big time commitment. Most organizations are grateful for as little as an hour a month of a person’s time. Some even have “volunteer at home” options for added convenience.
