Explanation:

Kennington or Kenny, an English doctor who assists Rukmani with medical care especially her infertility problem. He provides proper healthcare facilities for the poor villagers in the novel- Nectar in a Sieve.

Kenny acts as a friend to Rukmani providing proper care whenever she needed. He not only helped Rukmani's mother in her last days but also provided with material assistance like milk for her three year old suckling child.

He also helps her son, Murugan, in getting a job as a servant and offers another son a job of medical assistant.
