Explanation: Her sketches dominated areas which were predominantly deemed masculine or no go zones for women at the time. She was able to portray images that were so outstandingly masculine that she became the first woman to be awarded The grand Cross of The legion of Honor.

Her dress code was also largely masculine with signature clothing of pants and shirts which she had to obtain police authorization to do so in early 1850's as was not common for women at the time to dress in such a manner. This was her dress code pretty much for her entire life which clearly broke the boundaries for women then as opposed to present day dressing which is seen as normal.
