The city of Dallas, Texas passed a curfew this year restricting the movement of minors during the day. Because people under the age of 18 are supposed to be in school during the day, the curfew is meant to affect primarily children who choose to skip school or those who decide to drop out. The chief of police explained, "The idea of the curfew came up after large jumps in the rates of theft and vandalism during the day." Several groups in the community were in favor of the measure. Others believe it is a mistake. Brenely Watson spoke on behalf of a group of concerned citizens. She said, "The police department has no proof that minors are responsible for the increased crime. Perhaps someone should look in a mirror if they really need someone to blame." Mrs. Watson has a 15-year-old son who has perfect attendance at school. The city council voted in favor of the curfew. It is now law. The mayor praised the police department before and after the vote. "The chief needs us to do everything in our power to help the brave men and women of the police department," he said. "Stopping crime depends on more people than just those wearing badges." 1. In the article, Brenely Watson says, "Perhaps someone should look in a mirror if they really need someone to blame." The reader can infer that Ms. Watson believes some of the blame for the rise in crime belongs to A- the police. B-the adults. C-the minors. D-the criminals.

Some with this question really need it 3. refer to story a2 and answer the following question. which sentence, if inserted in the blank space, would make the best sense in the context of the passage a. the director, peter hall, had to beg the theater management not to close the play immediately but to wait for the sunday reviews. b. despite the audience reaction, the cast and director believed in the play. c. it looked as if waiting for godot was beginning a long run as the most controversial play of london's 1955 season. d. waiting for godot was in danger of closing the first week of its run and of becoming nothing more than a footnote in the annals of the english stage. story a2 the english language premiere of samuel beckett's play waiting for godot took place in london in august 1955. godot is an avant-garde play with only five characters (not including mr. godot, who never arrives) and a minimal setting: one rock and one bare tree. the play has two acts; the second act repeats what little action occurs in the first with few changes: the tree, for instance, acquires one leaf. in a statement that was to become famous, the critic, vivian mercer, has described godot as "a play in which nothing happens twice." opening night, critics and playgoers greeted the play with bafflement and derision. the line, "nothing happens, nobody comes, nobody goes. it's awful," was met by a loud rejoinder of "hear! hear! " from an audience member. however, harold hobson's review in the sunday times managed to recognize the play for what history has proven it to be, a revolutionary moment in theater.
