If you use someone else’s ideas in your writing and do not provide proper credit, it is known as plagiarism. Whether you purposely pretend the ideas are yours or simply forget to mention the source, you are plagiarizing someone else’s work. Paraphrasing is an easy way to prevent such indolence in your work. Paraphrasing means rewriting someone else’s ideas in a new way. When you paraphrase, you take the main ideas and express them in your own voice. You use the information you find, but not the actual words. A summary is a shortened version of important information in which you restate key points in your own words. Knowing how to summarize effectively is an essential communication skill. Your summary will be much shorter than the original piece of writing, it will mention only the most important information, it will restate or paraphrase the information in your own words and it will discuss the author's ideas. It will NOT include your opinion about the ideas
