(Introduction) Engaging in community service provides people with the opportunity to become active members of their community. The questions is whether to volunteer with an environmental or national group. I believe volunteering with an environmental group is better, for several reasons. Volunteering locally is quite fulfilling, allowing you to support your own community, and since you spend most of your time there, you often get to see the impact of your help quicker. It can also start a chain reaction within your community of people who want to join in and help out. Not only does it help the environment you spend your time in, it also gives you more free time to do activities you might want to do aside from your community service.

(First reason) First of all, volunteering in your own community allows you to experience the impact of your good deeds. You get to watch your environment grow right in front of your own eyes. This will also allow others to see that helping in an environmental group can not only help others but the way they live their lives and they might want to join in as well.

(Second reason) Second of all, this will also give you more time to spend on other activities aside from work for your group. the saves you the struggle of having to travel to work every day, and gives you more time to yourself throughout the day. When your within your own community, you save a lot of time you would usually spend traveling around.

(Counterclaim) Now it might be argued that joining a national group would be better because you are reaching beyond your own community. While this is a good reason, I stand by my saying that volunteering in an environmental and local group is more effective, as you will help more people in less amount of time.

(Conclusion) In conclusion, supporting an environmental group in your own

community is better than being in a national group because you get to see your own community as well as save more time for yourself. This is why I believe volunteering in an environmental group is more effective.
