somehow, maybe because i had nothing better to do, i kept returning to the theater and working for them. one day, a guy named mike asked if i would like to learn to "run lights." he showed me a big board with lots of levers that moved up and down to control the lights in the theater. i shook my head. it made me feel nervous (what if i blew up the but he said, "it needs to be done, and you're here."
how does the narrator overcome his shyness in the excerpt?
