The short story of "The Cask Of Amontillado" by Edgar Allen Poe tells of how the narrator Montresor exacted revenge on his friend Fortunato for insulting him numerous times in the past. This short story ends with the burying alive of Fortunato by Montresor in his family's vault.

The way he persuades his victim to comply with his plan was to just keep on making it seem like he cared for his friend. The line "But I  can see you are trembling with the cold. Come! Let us go back before it is too late"  shows his false concern for him, which is the last he will feel for him.
