arianna. [breaking into tears.] i don't understand. the
test was hard, but i thought i did well. i answered all the
questions. i didn't have any trouble finishing on time.
father. [with determination.] we'll get to the bottom of
this
[father stands, marches over to the phone, and picks it
up. he dials, listens intently for a few moments, presses
a button occasionally as though going through a menu,
and finally hangs up.]
arianna. well?
o father. you'll just have to try again next year.
father. there must not have been a mistake after
all.
father. the principal says she can meet with you
tomorrow
father. i can't get past the answering machine. i'll
call again tomorrow morning.
