buddhism teaches there is no permanent , individual self. this is a very hard concept for people to grasp who have grown up with judaism, christianity, or islam, religions that believe strongly in the permanence of the individual self. how does this rejection of the permanent, individual self tie in with the doctrine of the cycle of birth, death, rebirth, and, finally, liberation.
