In May 1883, the 13-year-old Mohandas was hitched to 14-year-old Kasturbai Makhanji Kapadia in an orchestrated marriage, as indicated by the custom of the district around then. His folks pick his better half, and hers him. His eagerness to get married. And as everything that his father did then struck him as beyond reproach.

He says there are no ethical contentions for such youthful relationships, yet that is the custom.   The grown-ups choose to wed Gandhi, one of his siblings, and a cousin of his everything simultaneously so as to get a good deal on the festival.  

One of the issues, as per Gandhi, was that hitched young ladies quit going to class. His better half was ignorant when he wedded her, and regardless of Gandhi's endeavors to instruct her to peruse and compose, she never adapted more than the nuts and bolts.
