Read the following passages:
long ago, the gods held a meeting to create a new animal. "it will be large, with strong bones, so man can use them to make tools," said the sky god. "it will be covered in a thick hide, so man can use it to make leather clothing," said the water god. "its meat will be plentiful, so man will have much to eat," said the wind god. they called the animal bison and set great herds of them across the land.

not even the bison "chips," or dung, went to waste. while the men hunted the great beasts, women and children collected the droppings. once the dung had thoroughly dried in the sun, it served as fuel for cooking fires.
which of these best describes how the historical description enhances a reader's understanding of the mythical description?

a. it corrects misinformation in the myth by explaining the actual uses for part of a bison.

b. it gives readers a vivid picture of all the sensory experiences involved in a bison hunt.

c. it supports the theology of the myth by providing a factual description of religious practices.

d. it connects the purpose behind the myth to actual practices to show the importance of bison.

Read the excerpt from "perseus." fate willed it—or perhaps zeus, who up to now had done little for his love and his child—that they should be discovered by a good man, a fisherman named dictys. he came upon the great box and broke it open and took the pitiful cargo home to his wife who was as kind as he. they had no children and they cared for danaë and perseus as if they were their own. this excerpt best shows that the ancient greeks valued beauty and gracefulness. intelligence and hard work. kindness and generosity. independence and action.
